Big nasty number 1....Done!  Thank goodness!  Meg and I got up at 3:30 and were on the road by 4:00 this morning just to beat the heat.  I think our efforts to beat the heat are in vain because all we can really do is beat the really bad heat.  It's still hot as heck at 4:00 in the morning.  With an excessive heat warning in effect for most of this weekend I knew it was going to be a warm run.  The temp at the start, in the dark, was 87 degrees.  Things went well for the first 10-12 miles and then the sun came up and the heat was on.  At 14 miles I had made my way back to my neighborhood and bumped into Meg where I tried to talk to her as long as I could so I wouldn't have to keep running.  She was struggling with the heat as well, it was pretty rough.  The last six miles I imagine the temperature was at or above 90 and the wheels were starting to fall off.  At mile 17 I am embarrased to say I actaully sat down for a minute or so and didn't want to get up.  I eventually did get up and trudged in the last 3 miles at about an 8:30 pace.  I really wanted to average 8:15/mile today but pretty much lost it in the last 5 miles.

I hope to be able to do that kind of distance in the future. I'm nowhere near your time though. I still have quite a ways to go. Good Job, your blog gave me a little extra motivation. Have a great weekend

Jeff, your a Beast! Awesome 20 miler. I think that avg is pretty darn good bro. The heat runs will toughen you up as well.

8:19 in that heat is definitely worth sub 8:15 in what a sane person would run in (yes, but it's a DRY HEAT! sorry, couldn't resist). Awesome job! Ok, to take a break in a training run, I do it when I need to.

Great job today. Whenever I thought of complaining about the heat this morning I thought about what you were going through and realized I had it pretty good. You training is going so well this year. Can't wait to see it all pay off for you.

Gumpy...Thanks, glad it helped. Keep up the training.

Mike...No more of a beast than you my friend. I hope you're right about the heat making me tough, I sure need it.

Mark...You are very right about the dry heat, I will take it any day over your humid heat. I have spent quite a bit of time in Biloxi, MS and I don't envy what you go through at all.

Andy...Glad I was able to provide some motivation for you today. I hope to see it pay off as well. If I can stay healthy and keep pushing I just might see it happen this year.

Nice run! Way to tough it out. It's hard to imagine that kind of heat in the morning before daylight. Hope it cools off a bit for you next week.

I seriously can not believe you can run that far and that fast in the heat. I am praying that you remembered to protect that blad head of yours with sunscreen or a hat!!! :)

That's why I love doing my long runs on the parkway ... I always run into people and have an excuse to stop and chat for a minute!!! :)

You did awesome HB. Seriously ... so AWESOME!!!!
