Decided to run a goal marathon pace run today since my training hasn't really included many miles at GMP.  Started out with a 1 mile warm-up and then got right into a 7:28, or better, pace.  The splits went like this:  7:16, 7:03, 7:29, 7:25, 7:22.  I am not really sure what happened in the second and third splits but feel pretty good about the run overall.  It wasn't easy but it wasn't as hard as a good hard tempo run either.  My foot pain wasn't too bad this morning and I am looking forward to seeing the podiatrist today and get his opinion.  I'm not looking forward to the possibility of a cortisone shot.....those things hurt......especially in the foot.......and I am a big wimp.

The Doc:  Well I found out I don't currently have a stress fracture (he called it a Jones fracture), or at least not one he can see on x-ray.  He hasn't ruled it out entirely becuase I guess these things can take up to 2-3 weeks to develop into something you can see on x-ray.  He thinks it is just some tendonitis in those tendons that attatch to the outer edge of the foot.  He suggested if it continues to get worse we could do a cortisone shot but since it has gotten better he suggested waiting a week or so to see what happens.  If it really gets bad he also suggested a bone scan to check for a stress fracture but that would be down the road a ways yet.  So for now I am going to continue with the Ice and anti-inflams and get back after it.  If worse comes to worse I will have a three week taper to ride the bike and tone it down and hopefully get fully healed.

What the?? I thought you had a bad foot going on. LOL great job man and great splits. Post again once you find out what the podiatrist gives you his opinion. Hopefully your back on track again. Sure is looking like it.

I'm back from the Doc and I don't know that I am back on track completely, but I am going to try and go for it over these last three weeks and get as much as I can done. The foot has been improving so I figure I need to do what I can for now and keep a close eye on it, maybe ride the bike once or twice a week along with running just to be safe. I'm planning on hitting it hard this week with a 20-21 miler on Saturday so it will be a good test for all the aches and pains.

Great news then man. Good idea with riding 2 days or so a week just to keep up with it. Sounds like you have been doing everything right to get you back to where you are now.
