Decided to take one more day off as a precaution.  Calf is still a little tight but I think the massage, icing and stretching, as well as everyones healing vibes has really been working.  I feel like I could have run today but again, better safe than sorry.

Glad to hear it's feeling better. Keep up the treatment. Keep us posted.

From Kathie on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 12:40:58

You are so smart to say off it! I am sure you will be 100% better soon!

Man I am on the injury list too. I hope to get in some slow miles today. Sore to hear capture the flag was your calprit. Mine was either the 5k basketball or football. Take it easy and just relax. You will only benefit from taking time to recover with you being in a taper. You will be back at it sooner then you know it.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 16:10:38

I'm quoting Pron8r: The extra rest is going to benefit you more than any running will. He also emphasised proper eating/nutrition is more important during the days leading up to the marathon. The first three days of the week eat a little more lean protein than carb. The three days before the marathon eat more carb.

Jeff, keep up the treatment. You may want to use ICY-HOT or any topical anti-inflammatory cream when you massaged the calf. Stetch gently only after the muscle is warmed. Do you use "the stick"? Ice it after your roll the muscle or when you rest/elevate the leg.

Take care, your calf will heal, think positive.

Two words: Pop Tarts!!!

From JeffC on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 17:36:33

LOL...Rhett so are you saying I should carb up on Pop Tarts!!

Smooth...Thanks for the very good info. Does that mean I need to lay off the chocolate for a few days? :)

Kathie...Thanks I hope you're right.

Mark...Sorry to hear that you are injured too. I need to just go into a bubble for the last three weeks of marathon training so I don't risk any dumb injuries. I wonder if the mean hills of the VOF half marathon were partly to blame in my case. Who knows.

From Clay on Tue, Dec 02, 2008 at 19:33:32

Way to be smart Jeff, your fitness is there so take it easy and it will be fine. And I like the Carb idea too!

From Dave S on Wed, Dec 03, 2008 at 00:12:11

Jeff, sorry to hear about the calf. Glad it's improving. Your training has been good and skipping runs this week shouldn't affect your marathon this weekend. Good luck with it.

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 03, 2008 at 00:17:07

Jeff, chocolates are good for the soul. Eat away!!!

From Cal on Wed, Dec 03, 2008 at 00:24:37

keep up the good work with your treatments. hope you can run the race with no problems.

From Teena on Wed, Dec 03, 2008 at 00:33:35

Jeff,

This is GREAT news!! Just keep doing whatever you are doing ... because it is working!! Hallelujah!!

(Oh ... and one thing I have learned ... ALWAYS listen to Smooth!! Seriously ... you can't go wrong!)
