Important Info for the 3:15 group

I plan to be at the expo between 3:30 and 4:00 pm on Friday to pick up my race packet.  If that works for some of you then great, I will see you there, if not, I may call each of you (if I have your number) Friday night sometime between 7:00 and 9:00 just to say hey and see if we are all good to go.

I think the plan is to meet up on Saturday morning around 6:30 in the elite corral near the porta potties.  If some of the group do not get elite bibs we may need to revise that plan, any thoughts on an alternate meeting spot?  I just had a thought that the porta potties may be a bit crowded and it may be hard to find people.  What about meeting at the north west entrance to the elite corrals.  That way if someone didn't get elite status they could jump in right behind the elite corral and stay with us at the start.

Here is the group as I know it right now Mike Warren, JonA, Josse, JulieC, Huans32 (Mark), MarcE, ChadL, Dace, Lee Elmer (not on the blog) and Me.

I know everyone has different ideas on pacing so I wanted to share mine.  A couple of us are planning to use a weighted pace chart created by a friend of ours that has you running slower on the uphills and faster on the downhills (makes sense).  Generally the halfs are about 1:38:30 and 1:36:30.  We would like to stick as close to that pace as possible so please don't feel obligated to hang with the group if we are going too slow or fast in certain areas.  In fact, I would hope that if and when I fade, that none of you give a second thought to slow down and stay with me.  Just keep pushing on!

Please add your comments and we will revise the plan as needed.  I look forward to meeting and running with all of you.

Super Slow and easy run today.  Winds have picked up and were pretty steady throughout the run.  Calf muscles are still a bit tight but seem to be feeling better.  Just trying to relax and heal in these last couple of runs.

Month end notes:  This marks my second month of the year above 200 miles which is the same as I had last year.  My overall average pace for the year is 8:15 compared to 8:25 for last year and my overall mileage is 1574.2 compared to 1442.21 last year.

Time:  35:13  8:48/mile

Sounds like a good plan. I think meeting up with you at around 4pm at the expo is a good idea. So we can find out if everyone got a elite bib to get in the corral. So I am planning on running with the same Cougars pace chart too. 4pm should be good for me and the wife getting there.

Looking AWESOME! GOOD LUCK you GUYS!!!!

Hey guys, I'll have to let Mark (Huans32) know what my # is, I don't know that I will be to the expo by 4.

All the meeting arrangements sound great.

I'm with you guys on the pacing. Cougars chart looks like a great way to tackle it.

Sounds like a great plan. I think you all will be very successful. Go get 'em.

From JulieC on Tue, Sep 29, 2009 at 21:34:11 from 71.32.226.94

How fast do you have to be to be Elite? I only ran a 3:19 at Ogden. I doubt I am Elite. Is it a huge Elite crowd to be behind?

From Huans32 on Tue, Sep 29, 2009 at 22:06:53 from 67.182.192.209

Julie- I am not sure if it is the same for the women as men. But if you put your estimated finish time of 3:15 then your in the elite corral. So not sure what it is for women.

Sounds like a great plan. I'll be traveling from Sandy, UT w/ Tom Slick. So, I'm kind of at the mercy of whereever/whenever he drives me. We'll try to be at the Expo at 4:00 -- I think a group is then going to Brick Oven for pasta at 5:00.

Huans, I'm flying into SLC Thursday afternoon. You and Kristi should stop by Slick's for a game of pool. Would be great to see you.

As for my ability to run 3:15 -- I'm not as confident as I'd like to be. I've had this nagging right calf muscle cramp jump up and get me twice in the last few weeks...and I was only at mile 5 both times. Maybe the cooler weather will help..maybe not running for the remainder of the week will help.

Looks like we'll have a little headwind (20 MPH SSW). Unfortunately, in a point-to-point race -- there won't be any getting around it. Let's hope the direction changes, and if not, we might want to take turns leading a little pack to share the burden. Sounds like we have a pretty good sized group. Should be fun!

Good luck you guys!!!

From jeffc on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 10:51:47 from 167.207.128.101

Julie..If you put 3:15 for your estimated finish time I'm sure you will get an elite bib. I think the cutoff for men is about 3:10-3:15 and the cutoff for women is around 3:30. I think it varies a little from year to year based on the number of entries and estimated times.

From jeffc on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 10:53:34 from 167.207.128.101

Marc..I'm not super confident about my 3:15 abilities either. But then again I am the king of doubt. I think the group thing will definately help especially with the wind in the forcast. Lets just hope for some race day magic and see what happens.

From JulieC on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 11:42:57 from 71.32.226.94

This is exactly how the forecast started out last year. Then suddenly "a chance of rain" was in the forecast. Then we all know what happened next. Better pack for all kinds of turnouts. The weather in Utah County right now is making my stomach turn. It is all such a fresh memory--SGM 08'. This time I will be ready.

From Kathie on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 12:29:51 from 63.248.105.188

I think you have a great plan Jeff, we are all as physically ready as we can be, now is the time to work on being mentally ready!

From chadl on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 12:37:53 from 174.23.114.191

4 p.m. is great for me. I'll plan on seeing you guys then. Not happy to hear about the head winds that's what got me last year. Hopefully the forecast changes.

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 13:01:02 from 67.42.27.114

Good luck to all you elites!

From jeffc on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 13:11:04 from 167.207.128.101

Good one Paul!

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 13:12:25 from 67.42.27.114

Jeff, I meant that as a sincere compliment.

From jeffc on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 14:09:36 from 167.207.128.101

Paul, I appreciate the compliment but I am still rolling on the floor LOL! :)

From Cal on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 16:40:15 from 66.133.117.3

Good luck to you and the whole group Jeff. It should be a great day.

Stick together, stay strong, stay on pace, everone wins.

From Huans32 on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 17:55:11 from 138.64.2.76

Great advise Cal. That is the plan though. Really looking forward to running it with this group. Couldn't ask for a better group.

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 18:04:05 from 67.42.27.114

Sounds like Mark is ready to break wind, if necessary. :)

From jeffc on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 18:21:55 from 167.207.128.101

From the sounds of it, there will be plenty of wind breaking going on.:)

From Jon A on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 19:25:00 from 76.27.81.31

"breaking wind", sounds like good motivation to run ahead of this group. :-)

From Rhett on Wed, Sep 30, 2009 at 19:35:21 from 74.42.168.199
