Legs were absolutely dead this morning.  Couldn't get going at all and felt drained for the entire run.  This is what I was afraid of this final week of hard training.  I'm sure yesterdays tempo didn't help much but I expected today would go smoother than it did.  Hopefully the legs found some recovery today and will be ready to go tomorrow.  Temp was 55 and there was a steady breeze from the north.

Ya that is a normal recovery after such a good tempo run I would think. You should be back to normal tomorrow for your last big long run on the weekend.

Bummer man, my legs feel the same way today so I'm not even going to run. Great job getting in the miles.

8:15/mile seems like a quick pace for a recovery run. be careful out there!

From JeffC on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 12:08:45

Cal...I fat fingered the time/mile it was supposed to be 8:25. I changed it. Even 8:25 is probably a little fast, especially since I am feeling so dead.

Hey Jeff did you Ice bath after your tempo run? I have found if I do my legs feel much better the next day. Then again I am not going anywhere near your speeds, just a thought.

Really I just want to get you to feel some of the cold we are having up here :)

From JeffC on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 13:04:49

Kathie..I have done ice baths in the past and they do work really well but I usally don't have time unless it is after a Saturday morning run. I certainly would have benefited from an ice bath yestarday though. I may have to try and squeeze on in before my Saturday long run so I can hopefully wake-up my legs.

Just to clarify Jeff, I'm sure you know whats best, so i hope i wasn't sounding critical. I've just become a lot more conservative in my thinking lately with regard to recovery runs and avoiding injuries and such. You're doing great. Keep it up!

From JeffC on Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 13:46:30

Cal...I really do appreciate the reminders once in a while, I didn't think it sounded critical, I call it constructive critisism. Sometimes I get caught up in the moment of training and forget what is best for me even though I think I know. I was just sitting here thinking I probably need to scrap my GMP run tomorrow cause I have been walking really close to the edge of injury and it won't take much at this point to push me over. It's a constant balancing act no doubt.

Jeff,

Of course your legs are tired silly!! You have been working your tail off!! No worries!! I might join the "more conservative recovery run" club myself. You are going to nail LVM ... don't spend any energy with negative thinking!!
