Tempo run today.  Decided to up the tempo miles from 3 to 4 this week and slipped on the racing flats to see if that made any difference.  I think they definately helped mentally and I'm sure they also helped physically because those things are feather light.  After a two mile warm up I started on the the 4 mile tempo and ran the following splits:  6:53, 6:47, 6:48, 6:45.  I actaully kept the speed up until 6.2 miles so I could see my 10K time which was right at 45:30.  Nothing to write home about but not bad for having two slow warm up miles.  I was a bit worried at the start of this run becuase I still felt some soreness and fatigue in the legs but once I got going, I didn't really notice any problems other than sucking air.  Temp was 58 and the wind was very light.

Great run! Always nice to go out and hit the paces you want.

Jeff...Way to go man. No wonder your legs felt tired with all the miles you've been putting in. Mine were the same way today, but as you said, they started feeling better later in the run.

By the way, I often hear people talking about racing flats. How are the different from regular running shoes? Are they the kinds of shoes we see track runners wearing?

Dave..I am staying healthy, cross your fingers. I am never completely pain free but it's not unbearable either, so I am good.

Dale..racing flats are really light weight running shoes. They pretty much look like any other running shoes (not track spikes), except mine are bright red, I call them my ruby slippers. If you click on the link for my Saucony shoe above you can see what they look like and read about them. I've never worn them in a race except for one leg of the WBR 2008. I only use them for speed work or tempo runs on rare occasion. I would like to use them more in 5 and 10k's, we'll see how that goes.

Jeff - You are so fast I can't your times are getting so fast! What pace do you have to run to BQ?

From JeffC on Tue, Nov 04, 2008 at 13:57:25

7:28/mile or 3:15:59

AWESOME 10K tempo run. You're hitting those splits nicely. Very cool ruby slippers, just like what the elites wear. Keep it up. You're churning out some impressive workouts.

That's an AWESOME 10K tempo run. Very COOL "rubby slippers", the ones elites wear at marathons. Keep it up. You're churning out some impressive splits.

Nice job on the tempo run Jeff. Seems like you are heading toward another major breakthrough and will be seeing lots of new PRs in the coming months.
