Today was the first trial run in a long time with the 800 meter intervals. Since it has been several months, maybe a year since I have done these I decided to take them relatively slow. Started out with a 2.5 mile warm up and then planned to do the intervals at about 6:50/mile pace or 3:25/800 meters. Splits for the 3 intervals were 3:24, 3:24, 3:23. I felt like I could have gone faster and also could have done at least a couple more intervals but happily did not even think about it. Did a 3:25 jogging recovery between each interval and had no problem recovering during that time. As we get closer to the marathon I plan to eventually pick the pace up to a maximum of 3:15/800 meters but for today my times suit me just fine. Did a little cool down at the end to make it an even six miles and went home to do some extra stretching. I think tomorrow will tell the tale of how hard these things are going to be on my body but for now I feel just fine.

Good workout Jeff. I hope you're past all the injuries now. Just over 10 weeks 'til St. George!

Still dealing with the injuries to a certain degree. I'm not 100% yet but I am better than I have been. Thanks for checking in Cal, welcome back, I hope the vacation was good.

Nice job on the intervals, you are getting into great shape, keep up the good work:-)

WOW!! Nice interval training man. You hit those splits very nicely. I was really impressed how you were able to hit them at Ogden and now even more so on your interval run. Great Job man.

Clay, Thanks, not great shape, but better shape anyway....still a long way to go.

Huans, those even splits are all about the Garmin. I just ran the half miles at a 6:50/mile pace and.....tada! I don't go to a track I just use the interval training feature in the Garmin and run them on a long strait road in my development. I hate driving anywhere to workout, I'd rather just throw on the shoes and go from home.

Nice job on the workout. Are these workouts along the lines of the Yasso 800s?

From JeffC on Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 19:51:27

Tom, yes, Yassos is the idea with this work out. 3:15's would be my goal since my marathon goal is 3:15. Don't know if that theory holds true for me but I do know it's a good workout.
