Wednesday means speed or tempo and today was a tempo run day.  Plan called for 7 miles with 5 at tempo pace of 7:05/mile.  As usual I was a little worried about getting through this workout.  Here are the splits:  8:20, 7:01, 6:56, 7:01, 6:57, 7:01, 7:52.  As you can see I survived but it wasn't easy.  I made some discoveries during this run that will hopefully help me to improve.  I found that when my mind started to wander and think about the pain, I would lose concentration and my turnover seemed to slow down.  If I got my mind focused back on keeping the leg turn over quick then I was able to increase my speed with out additional effort.  I really tried to concentrate on my form today and keep my mind off the pain and it really seemed to help.  Felt pretty tired by the end, but as usual, I felt really good as well, speed work does that to ya.

Time:  51:11  7:19/mile

Great run. Looks like you hit your splits perfectly. I have the same problem with loss of concentration and slower turnover.

Yea it is hard to think about your form all the time...I wish it would just stay correct on its own. They say that is the difference between elites and the rest of us is that they are thinking about the race/run the whole time. While I am thinking about what to cook for dinner, singing a long with the song, or just letting my mind wander.

nice running Jeff. way to hit your paces! (its that concentration thing that made me stop using an MP3 player during races.)

Just use the force my friend! Feel the pace, be the pace, lol. Hey, great workout. The tempos are your ticket to Bean Town.

Very nicely done, Jeff!!! You nail those pace right on. I find concentration is the hard part of tempo run. GOOD JOB focusing on good form!

Cal...There is a lot more to maintaining mental focus when it comes to running than I give it credit for.

Kathie...I guess I'll never be an elite (surprise, surprise) because, like you, on most easy days my mind is all over the place.

Mike...The force I will use my friend.

Smooth...Glad to know I am not the only one having trouble focusing.

Andy...I remembered reading your comments on focusing and turnover and that is what made me think about it this morning. It helped a lot.

Great run! It's amazing how good a run can be when you get your head in the right place, it sure beats having to battle it.
