Well today was the big day for the 1600 meter trial run. Finally a day without wind! Got up and ran 3 miles with Meg this morning. She was able to handle 3 easy miles and that was just what I needed to get warmed up for my 1600. Jumped in the car and rode to the high school track for practice. I then slipped into the ruby red slippers and ran another mile with some fast strides for a warm up and then the four of us that showed up lined up for the 1600 meter time trial. At the start I was thinking I would like to run 90 second quarters and then try to hang on and keep it just under 6:00. The first lap was a little fast at about 1:24. The second lap came in just under 3:00. The third lap was just over 4:30 so I thought if I gutted it out I would have a chance at going sub 6:00. Well as it turns out I didn't have enough guts and my time came in at 6:00:13. I was a little disappointed but not for too long because it is a 12 second PR from the last time I ran it and this was just practice. I think on the day of the race I might be capable of going under 6:00 with some race day magic. I think my best strategy for the mile is to go even splits for the first 3 laps and then just give it everything on the last lap and hope for the best. I then ran 5 more miles on the track while the rest of my teammates practiced the other track and field events.

Nice job Jeff that is still pretty dang good, your getting faster by the minute. I hope Meg gets to feeling better soon, take care.

Great job Jeff. Dang .13 of a second. I'll bet you shave off some seconds on race day.

I knew you could run a 6 min mile!!! The 0.13 seconds don't count. I think you just hit the stop button a bit slow. How long do you have to train? I'd get out and do some 200 and 400 meter repeats if you have a few weeks.

Wow that is fast Jeff! I know you will do really great at your race. "Race Magic" can do some really cool things.

Clay...Thanks.

Dave...I hope your right

Rhett...I think it is about 3-4 weeks away. I will be doing some faster running between now and then for the 5K so maybe I will add in some 200 and 400 meter repeats on easy days...just a few though.

Kathie...Thanks, race day magic is a good thing.

Sounds like you still have your speed from our H.S. days! Hey, are you running Ogden this year?

From JeffC on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 22:37:29 from 24.253.105.252

Mike...Ya I wasn't very fast then either. I am not running Ogden, you?

Yea, I have a friend running he is going for the grand slam. He talked me into it with a last minute guilt trip. Whats your opinion of the course.

From jeffc on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 23:05:40 from 24.253.105.252

I really liked the course a lot Fairly gradual downhill most of the way makes for a pretty fast course. If I wasn't making all kinds of other trips this year I would be doing it for sure.

WOW!!! I'm with Rhett. You hit your 6:00 mile! More practice and race day magic, you'll be running sub 6 min. mile.
