Interesting run in the fog this morning. I don't think I have ever run in the fog in Vegas, or ever for that matter. We only see fog on very very rare occasions here so it was a bit of a treat. Legs are tired, feet hurt, just feel crudy all around.....shouldn't have slacked off in December.

Hung out with Chad and Mark for a little while and then my lack of training kicked in and kicked my butt. It was good to see a few of you up there. |

Decided to actually pick up the pace a little bit today if you can call it that. I am running a low key 5K this weekend and wanted to get in some slightly faster miles. Since I have done no faster training I kept the pace pretty slow and onldy did two miles at about a 7:45 pace...blaughghgh! It didn't really feel all that good and everyday I realize I have a long road ahead of me to get back to marathon shape.
PM: Ran with the young men to help them meet there 3 miles in 30 minutes duty to god requirement. They all did great and my son Cory really gutted it out to meet the time requirement. So the extra miles were slow and easy, which in my current condition of "slob" worked out very well.

With the lack luster training and no recent 5K races I had no idea what to expect for this race. I figured a 7:30 pace would be about right for me and I would be happy with that or anything better. It was a perfect day for running right up until the gun went off. At that point the rain, which had been holding off so well, finally started fall and it wasn't a spring shower it was SGM 2008 all over again. I was soaked from head to toe and it poured the entire race. Other than the rain and the very overcrowded start (should have fought my way closer to the front) I enjoyed the race and am satisfied with the results. It gives me an idea of where I am fitness wise and also assures me than I can still run faster than I thought I capable. Ran a mile or so for warm-up and cool down. |

Wow! Finally went out for a semi-long run on a Saturday. Did a nice 3 mile warm up around home and then drove up to a local high school and ran up around the new county shooting ranges. I never checked out the elevation climb on this run but it was pretty good. I think I will try to do this run each weekend as it will be good hill training for Ragnar and other races.

Weather was perfect as usual with the temp just barely cooler than what I like. Most mornings have been in the mid 40s which is good but slightly cool. Another 10 degrees would be perfect. Just another plug along run trying to get back in some kind of routine and regain some fitness.

Ran the out and back 7 mile course again that has a 350 foot climb the first 3.5 miles and then obviously turns around for a nice descent back to the start. Added on 4 more miles at the end to make 11 and called it good. Felt okay at the end but could tell I am out of shape. Really slowed down the last few miles. I plan to make this run part of my SGM training this year as it incorporates really good hill training which I obviously don't get enough of during the week.

I have found a nice thing to take my mind of the drudgery and pain of running.....I pulled out my ipod and dusted it off. I fired that baby up for the first time in well over a year and really enjoyed my run. It really is amazing the effect that music can have on your training.
