Just trying to survive the winter and shed some weight.  Still don't feel real great and my pace shows it.

Much the same as yesterday, slow and not so easy.  I think my extra 10 or so pounds of weight are killing me.  Got a lot of work ahead of me to get back to where I was before SGM last year.

Decided to actually pick up the pace a little bit today if you can call it that.  I am running a low key 5K this weekend and wanted to get in some slightly faster miles.  Since I have done no faster training I kept the pace pretty slow and onldy did two miles at about a 7:45 pace...blaughghgh!  It didn't really feel all that good and everyday I realize I have a long road ahead of me to get back to marathon shape.

PM:  Ran with the young men to help them meet there 3 miles in 30 minutes duty to god requirement.  They all did great and my son Cory really gutted it out to meet the time requirement.  So the extra miles were slow and easy, which in my current condition of "slob" worked out very well.

With the lack luster training and no recent 5K races I had no idea what to expect for this race.  I figured a 7:30 pace would be about right for me and I would be happy with that or anything better.  It was a perfect day for running right up until the gun went off.  At that point the rain, which had been holding off so well, finally started fall and it wasn't a spring shower it was SGM 2008 all over again.  I was soaked from head to toe and it poured the entire race.  Other than the rain and the very overcrowded start (should have fought my way closer to the front) I enjoyed the race and am satisfied with the results.  It gives me an idea of where I am fitness wise and also assures me than I can still run faster than I thought I capable.  Ran a mile or so for warm-up and cool down.

Wow!  Finally went out for a semi-long run on a Saturday.  Did a nice 3 mile warm up around home and then drove up to a local high school and ran up around the new county shooting ranges.  I never checked out the elevation climb on this run but it was pretty good.  I think I will try to do this run each weekend as it will be good hill training for Ragnar and other races.
